As an Engineering Manager , you will play a dual role, balancing technical leadership with managerial responsibilities. You will lead a team of 4-5 software engineers, ensuring that they are motivated, productive, and aligned with the company's goals. While you will contribute to software development around 50-60% of the time, your primary focus will be on driving the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) processes, ensuring code quality, and facilitating smooth collaboration with the product team and the broader engineering team in the US. Position Summary Manage, mentor, and lead a team of 4-5 software engineers, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Spend 50-60% of your time actively contributing to non-blocking software development, focusing on backend Node.js development. Drive and enforce proper SDLC processes within the team, ensuring high-quality software development practices. Partner with the product team and other engineering teams in the US to align on project goals, timelines, and deliverables. Oversee and support the team's product in production, ensuring stability and performance. Handle ambiguity with ease, bringing stability, clarity, and direction to the team during uncertain times. Stay current with new technologies and responsibilities, helping to unblock and advance the team's capabilities. Leverage your experience to contribute meaningfully to the company’s growth and success, particularly in an early-stage startup environment. Required Skills and Experience Experience: 7-8 years in software development, with at least 4-5 years working on customer-facing products in a product development company. Backend Focus: Highly proficient in backend Node.js development, with 2-3 years of commercial experience in this area. Technical Leadership: 1-2 years of experience as a technical lead, responsible for the team’s technical designs, architecture, and code quality. Fullstack Competence: Although primarily focused on backend development, experience in fullstack development is valuable. Database Expertise: 5 years of experience working with relational databases. SaaS Production Support: Proven experience in supporting SaaS applications in a production environment. Team Management: 2-3 years of experience managing a team of 4-7 people, with experience in performance management cycles. Hiring & Management: Experience in hiring, managing, and, when necessary, managing out team members. Scrum Leadership: While not required on day one, experience leading scrum teams is preferred. Roadmap Contribution: Experience contributing to the creation of engineering and product roadmaps. Bonus Points: Experience in both start-ups and larger companies, particularly US-based companies in Europe. Familiarity with infrastructure in Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Experience working on sales or marketing products, especially outbound sales engagement tools.
